Altschuler vs. Bishop Rematch

From: National Review Online

Looks like we’re likely to see another House race rematch in 2012, featuring Republican Randy Altschuler:

St. James businessman Randy Altschuler, who narrowly lost a congressional race against Democratic incumbent Tim Bishop last year, has decided to seek a rematch with Bishop in 2012. Altschuler had withdrawn his name from consideration for the Suffolk County executive race after speaking with party leaders, according to a statement from his office.

“After serious consideration, I have consulted with party leaders and decided not to run for Suffolk County executive,” Altschuler said in a statement. “The truth is that after falling just short last year, my intent had always been to seek a rematch with Congressman Bishop in 2012 and in the coming days I will file papers making that run official.”

“Narrow” is almost an understatement; Bishop hung on by a margin of 600 out of more than 194,000 cast.

The article quotes a Bishop spokesman as scoffing “[Announcing] 18 months early is kind of silly.”

Hardly, pal. The date of the New York 2012 primary is up in the air, possibly June. (The presidential primary is in February, as of now.)
