Poll: Cain, Romney tied in Va.

From: Washington Times

Businessman Herman Cain is gaining ground with Virginia voters, tying former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for the lead among GOP presidential contenders in a Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday.

Mr. Cain and Mr. Romney each garnered 21 percent in the poll, followed by Texas Gov. Rick Perry with 11 percent. Mr. Perry's support dropped significantly in the survey; a month ago in the same poll, he led the field with 25 percent.

Last month, Mr. Cain received only 6 percent in the same survey.

Rep. Ron Paul of Texas got 9 percent in the poll, followed by Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 7 percent each.

In Virginia's U.S. Senate race, Democrat Tim Kaine and Republican George Allen remain in a statistical tie.

Only 44 percent of Virginians in the survey view President Obama favorably; 51 percent said he does not deserve to be re-elected.
